Suitors II

There are suitors at my door o-le-o-baliyah
Six or eight or maybe more o-le-o-baliyah
And my father wants me wed o-le-o-baliyah
Or at least that's what he said o-le-o-baliyah

*O-le-o-la
O-le-o-baliyah
O-le-o-la
O-le-o-baliyah
O-le-o-la
O-le-o-baliyah
O-le-o la
O-le-o-baliyah*

So I told him that I will o-le-o-baliyah
When the rivers run uphill o-le-o-baliyah
And the fish begin to fly o-le-o-baliyah
On the day before I die o-le-o-baliyah

*Chorus*

I left home the very next day o-le-o-baliyah
For at home I could not stay o-le-o-baliyah
And I found my own true love o-le-o-baliyah
He was sent from heaven above o-le-o-baliyah

*Chorus*

And tomorrow I'll be wed o-le-o-baliyah
For the rivers run uphill o-le-o-baliyah
And the fish began to fly o-le-o-baliyah
And I'll love him till I die o-le-o-baliyah

*Chorus*

All your dreams they will come true o-le-o-baliyah
In a paradise for two o-le-o-baliyah

*Chorus*

And the rivers ran uphill o-le-o-baliyah

*Chorus*

Rise Up Old Flame

Rise up old flame
By the light glowing
Show to us beauty, vision and joy.

Like a Prayer

(Sung with an interpretive dance)

Life is a mystery,
Everyone must stand alone
I hear you call my name
And it feels like home

*When you call my name it's like a little prayer
I'm down on my knees, I wanna take you there
In the midnight hour I can feel your power
Just like a prayer you know I'll take you there*

I hear your voice,
It's like an angel sighing
I have no choice, I hear your voice
Feels like flying
I close my eyes,
Oh God I think I'm falling
Out of the sky, I close my eyes
Heaven help me

*Chorus*

Like a child you whisper softly to me
You're in control just like a child
Now I'm dancing
It's like a dream,
No end and no beginning
You're here with me,
It's like a dream
Let the choir sing

*Chorus*

Just like a prayer, your voice can take me there
Just like a muse to me, you are a mystery
Just like a dream, you are not what you seem
Just like a prayer, no choice your voice can take me there

Happy Trails

Happy trails to you until we meet again
Happy trails to you
Keep smiling until then
Who cares about clouds when we're together
Just sing a song and bring the sunny weather
Happy trails to you until we meet again

The Merry-go-round

The merry-go-round broke down mm-boom-boom
It made a crazy sound mm-beep-beep
And, I did shout when the lights went out
When the merry-go-round broke down
Mm-boom-boom
Mm-beep-beep
Mm-boom
Mm-beep
Mm-boom-beep

Grey Squirrel

Grey squirrel, grey squirrel, swish your bushy tail
Grey squirrel, grey squirrel, swish your bushy tail
Wrinkle up your funny noise
Put a nut between your toes
Grey squirrel, grey squirrel, swish your bushy tail

Hayseed

My name is Hayseed
My hair is seaweed
My ears are made of leather
And they flop in rainy weather
Gosh! A hemlock!
I'm tough as a pine knot.
I'm a JMG you see
Tehe (to be)
Tehe, tehe, tehe (to be, to be, to be)

Greaser

I have 10 pairs of white socks
I only wear one pair
And every night I pour a bottle of Vaseline in my hair

*Cuz I'm a greaser
Woo
You're local greaser
Woo
Cuz I'm a greaser, and I hang out everwhere*

If you're looking for some action
And all your friends are square
Just call your local greaser and black leather is what you wear

*Chorus*

Sarah the Whale

(I've seen this both as a repeat-after-me song, or just a regular group song)

In Fresno Bay there was a whale

We fed her oysters by the pail

By thimble

By teacup

By bathtub and by schooner

Her name was Sarah and when she smiled

She showed her teeth for miles and miles

And tonsils

And spareribs

And things to fierce to mention

Now what would you do with a whale like that?

What would you do if she sat on your hat?

Or, your toothbrush?

Or, your campers?

Or anything that's useless, like that.

Purple Lights (Repeat Song)

Purple Lights

In the Canyon

That's where I

Long to Be

With my three

Good companions

My banjo, my pony, and me.

Whippoorwill

In the willows

Sing a sweet

Melody

To my three

Good companions

My banjo, my pony, and me

No more goats

To be ropin

No more strays

Do I see

Just my three

Good companions

My banjo, my pony, and me.

JMG Song

(with the 2001 additions)

We went to testing camp to see if we could do our best.
To take the wet day fire and to pass the written tests
We spent all summer chopping wood and eating cream of wheat.

*It was really neat.
Repeat.
JMGs are singing to ya
Junior Maine Guides hallelujah
JMGs are singing to ya
Pride of the State of Maine.*

We'd like to paint for each of you a picture more complete
Of the friends we made, the fun we had, the times that can't be beat,
JMG for each of us has really been a treat.

*Chorus*

They filled our coolers full of ice and all our food got wet
The cookies they were soggy when we thought that we were set
The veggie burgers started to stink, it didn't smell so sweet.

*Chorus*

The eggs in the plastic containers, they rotted one by one
We couldn't find the tomato sauce until the meal was done
We improvised, and cried and cried, and thought that we were beat.

*Chorus*

We peed into a hole almost every single day,
But one time Jessye tripped and fell, all along the way
We had to dig the hole deep, so people wouldn't peep.

*Chorus*

We had to finish all our tests before the week was done
We ticked off all our majors, it wasn't really fun
We walked across the field even though we were dead tired
And now we're going to sleep.
Don't repeat.

Rainbow Sleeping Bags

(to the tune of Rainbow Love
created by the 2001 JMGs of Camp Natarswi)

*We're a rainbow
Made of sleeping bags
We're an army
Just snoozin along
There's no 'larm clocks
That can wake us
Sleeping Bags are
Much too warm*

Then one morning
Becca woke us
She said that
We looked like caterpillars
She said that
We were a rainbow
Made of sleeping bags
So colorful

*Chorus*

That night
It was raining
We snoozed through-
Out the storm
We still are
Colorful
And our sleeping bags
Are really warm.

*Chorus*

Dewy

Dewy was the grass on the early morn in May
Dewey was the Admiral at Manilla Bay
Dewy were her eyes as she bid her love adieu
Do we love each other?
I should say we do.
